Traffic Blotter: 17-Year-Old Runs Into Back of Cadillac

A 17-year-old Gibsonia resident ran into the back of a 2007 Cadillac about 10:45 p.m. May 12 at the intersection of Babcock Boulevard and Warrendale Road, police report.

David Vogel, 46, of Gibsonia, told police he was stopped at the stop sign on Babcock in Pine Township when a 1978 Chevy ran into the back of him.

Truck, Camry Collide on Route 19

No injuries were reported May 11 when a construction truck and Toyota Camry collided on Route 19 near the intersection with North Chapel Drive in Pine Township, according to a  report.

Anthony Lagorga, 59, of Huntingdon, PA, told police his 2006 Kenworth truck was merging into the left turn lane in the work zone on southbound Route 19 when he heard what sounded like a crash about 3:15 p.m., police said.

At first, Lagorga could not see what he had hit, but he spotted a Toyota Camry as he pulled forward, the report states.

Jason Williams, 33, of Ellwood City told police he also was merging into the left lane when he was struck from the left side, police said. His 2003 Toyota Camry was towed.

Collision on Route 19 Near Wallace Road Intersection in Pine Township

A Chrysler Town & Country minivan on southbound Route 19 collided with a Ford Explorer about 2 p.m. May 10 when it traveled into the median lane that is not laned for traffic, police said.

Sandra Hacke, 60, of Bellevue was trying to get past stopped traffic and into the left-turn lane for Wallace Road in Pine Township, the police report states.

The Ford driven by Annmarie Falvey, 44, of Wexford, was legally pulling into the left-turn lane to Wallace when it ran into the side of the Chrysler, police said.

Three-Vehicle Chain Reaction on Route 19 between Wallace Road Extension and Wallace Road

McCandless-Franklin Park Ambulance Authority transported a 62-year-old Wexford woman to UPMC Cranberry on May 9 after a three-vehicle chain reaction on Route 19 in Pine Township, Northern Regional police report.

Carol Johnston-Foley's 2009 Subaru Forester was the middle vehicle in the collision, police said. She was taken to the hospital when she complained of a knee injury and anxiety, police said.

All three were southbound on Route 19, cresting the hill between Wallace Road Extension and Wallace Road, when the first two vehicles slowed because of traffic congestion, according to the Northern Regional Police Department report.

Ann Passodelis, 44, of Baden, told police she looked away momentarily and did not realize traffic had slowed, the police report states. 

Her 2011 Land Rover ran into the back of Johnston-Foley's Subaru, which ran into the back of a Kia Spectrum driven by Marlene Sofia, 63, of Ellwood City, police said.

The Land Rover was towed.

Rear-End Collision on Route 8 in Richland Township

A 2001 Ford Escape was towed May 8 after it ran into the back of a Hyundai on Route 8 in Richland Township, police said.

Police identified the 22-year-old driver as Rachel Wills, of Valencia.

Both vehicles were northbound on Route 8 when 56-year-old Susan Hilliard, of Butler, stopped her Hyundai Sonata for a vehicle making a left onto Willow Creek Road, police said.

Honda Slides Off Old State Road and Into Woods

A 2001 Honda Accord slid on loose stones and wet pavement May 7 as it traveled down a hill at a sharp bend on Old State Road near the Bakerstown Road intersection, according to Northern Regional police.

The vehicle driven by 21-year-old Chelsea Rowe, of Gibsonia, slid into the woods around 9 p.m. and Lombardo's Towing pulled it out, police said.

Collision on Route 8 in Richland Township

A 17-year-old driver from Gibsonia ran into the back of a Mazda about 6:30 p.m. May 7 when his brakes locked up and he slid on the wet pavement on Route 8 in Richland Township, police said.

Melinda Peterman, 41, of Valencia, was stopped on southbound Route 8 to make a left turn into the parking lot of First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown near Heckert Road when the collision occurred, according to the Northern Regional police report.

Ford Focus Hits Curb While Making Turn Onto Wallace Road

An 18-year-old Pittsburgh woman lost control of her Ford Focus and hit a curb as she made a left turn from Route 19 onto Wallace Road in Pine Township about 5:15 p.m. May 7, police said.

The front passenger side tire deflated and the rim was damaged on the Ford driven by Anna McGill, according to the police report, which also noted the road was wet.

“She reported that she was unable to steer the vehicle while making the left turn,” the report states.

Dodge Duranglo, Chrysler Sebring Collide on Route 19

 A Dodge Durango and Chrysler Sebring collided about 2:15 p.m. May 5 on Route 19 at Lake Drive in Pine Township, according to a Northern Regional police report.

David Lowe, 40, of Wexford, told police his Dodge Durango was traveling south in the middle turn lane to make a left turn onto Brooker, the report states.

He said he collided with the Chrysler when it came into his lane, police said.

Police advised Lowe that he was traveling too far in the middle turn lane—the stacking lane for a left turn onto Brooker started about 200 to 300 feet away from that intersection.

Albert Tritinger Jr., 81, of Wexford told police his Chrysler merged into the middle turn lane to make a left onto Lake Drive.

Both vehicles were towed.

Vehicles Collide When Making Left Turns Onto Route 910

Two vehicles collided as both made left turns onto Route 910 from Community Center Drive in Richland Township on May 3, police said.

Anthony Benaglio, 64, of Gibsonia, told police his 2001 Ford F150 was struck when he turned left onto Route 910 from Community Center Drive southbound. He also said he was looking to his left at approaching traffic and saw a vehicle approaching with its right turn signal on so he proceeded to make the left turn, the police report states.

Nicole Lyons, 18, of Cheswick, told police her 1994 Chevrolet Corsica was struck when she turned left onto Route 910 from Community Center Drive northbound.

Three-Vehicle Pileup on Route 910 Near Lloydmont Drive 

Three vehicles collided at 2:40 p.m. May 2 as one stopped on Route 910 to make a left turn near Lloydmont Drive in Pine Township, police said

A Dodge Caliber driven by 33-year-old Michael Evans, of Carnegie, ran into the back of a 2011 Honda Accord, which was driven by 30-year-old Brian Stumpf, of Allison Park, the police report states.

Then the Honda ran into the back of a Dodge Caliber driven by Cranberry Township resident Janet Heidkamp, 26, who had stopped to make a left into a driveway, police said.

Driver Slides on Wet Road, Hits Utility Pole

A 17-year-old driver from Gibsonia hit a utility pole, fence and trees after he slid on wet pavement and lost control of his 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee while traveling westbound on Bakerstown Road about 8:30 a.m. May 2, Northern Regional police report.

The driver told police that when he applied the brakes, the vehicle spun around, struck the utility pole with the left rear bumper, then went backward into a fence and trees and landed in the yard of 5033 Bakerstown Road in Pine Township, the report states.

Morning Collison on Bakerstown Road Sends Two to Hospital

A two-vehicle collision on a slick road near Holy Savior Cemetery in Richland Township sent two people to the hospital about 7:50 a.m. May 2, according to a Northern Regional Police Department report.

McCandless-Franklin Park Ambulance Authority and Richland EMS transported 28-year-old Lee Macik and 32-year-old Michael Perestock, both of Gibsonia, to Allegheny General Hospital, police said.

When police arrived, Macik was laying across the front seat of his Chevrolet Equinox and appeared "unresponsive," the police report states. The officer broke the rear passenger door window to get to the driver, police said.

Perestock told police he was traveling east on Bakerstown Road in his Dodge Ram 2500 when he saw the Chevrolet cross the center line and crash into him, the report states.

After being struck, the Dodge traveled onto the lawn on the south side of the 4600 block of Bakerstown Road, where it finally stopped after hitting a bush, police said.

The officer noted in his report that the area has been the scene of numerous crashes in the past.
