Traffic Blotter: Deer Appear and Accidents Ensue

Driving the hilly, curvy roads in the Pine-Richland community is dangerous enough without added challenges, but there are deer and these are the stories that go with their unanticipated appearances based on Northern Regional Police Department traffic reports.

Driver Wrecks While Trying to Avoid Three Deer

An Allison Park man wrecked when he tried to avoid hitting three deer that ran in front of him about 3 a.m. May 29 on Emmett Road in Pine, police said.

Jeffrey Macedonia, 50, told police he lost control of his 2007 Mitsubishi Galant and drove over a hillside, striking two trees.

The vehicle was towed by John B Lombardo's Complete Collision Inc.

Convertible Runs Off Road to Avoid Deer

A 2007 Ford Mustang convertible ran off Dean Road in Pine Township about 12:30 a.m. May 22 to avoid hitting a deer, police said.

Roy Staples, 43, of Wexford told police he drove to the left, traveled up an embankment and hit a road sign before returning to the road. The vehicle turned on its left side and slid down the road a short distance before coming to a stop, the police report said.

The report noted that the top to the convertible was down at the time of the accident, which occurred on Dean Road between Warrendale and Mount Pleasant roads.

The vehicle was towed; no injuries were reported.

Deer Cause Vehicle Crash on Babcock Boulevard

On the evening of May 2, Donna Truver, 58, of Glenshaw was traveling south on Babcock Boulevard near Jackson Road when several deer ran onto the road, a police report states.

Truver tried to stop but could not avoid hitting one deer with the front passenger side of her 2005 Toyota Four Runner, police said.

“The deer was placed out of service, and PennDOT was notified for the removal,” the police report said.

The car was towed by Boff Towing Service.

Woman Swerves to Miss Deer, Hits Gas Meter

Jennifer Hart, 28, of Gibsonia was traveling near 5030 Bakerstown Road about 8 p.m. April 21 when she swerved to miss a deer and struck a gas meter just off the road, police said.

Peoples Gas Co. was notified that gas was leaking, and fire units were called to the scene, according to the police report.

No injury was reported; minor undercarriage damage was noted on Hart’s 2000 Volvo S-90, said police.
