Thunderstorms Cause Few Problems in Richland Township

Some flooding noted in front of Richland Mall.

Thunderstorms in the area Monday caused minor damage in Richland Township.

Trees came down on utility lines on Route 910 at the Turner Road intersection in Richland Township, said Northern Regional Police Chief T. Robert Amann.

There was also some flooding in front of Richland Mall, he said.

A thunderstorm that moved into Gibsonia around 4:15 p.m. brought heavy rain. The National Weather Service measured about a half-inch of precipitation in Gibsonia and Wexford.

Once the storm moved through, Pine-Richland Patch traveled major roads in the Pine-Richland community -- Routes 8, 910 and 19 -- and saw no flooding, downed trees or power lines.

Duquesne Light reported at 8 p.m. that around 6,300 of its customers were without power after two rounds of thunderstorms. It said crews were beginning to restore power by removing trees and repairing downed wires.

A 10 p.m. update noted 3,300 customers were still without power.

The Duquesne Light statement said the areas hardest hit by the storm were Baldwin, Findlay, Liberty, Port Vue and with other areas in the southern and eastern suburbs of Allegheny County also affected.

As of 11:45 p.m. the National Weather Service was predicting a few scattered showers and thunderstorms through 9 a.m. Tuesday for Gibsonia and Wexford.

Hot, sunny weather is forecast for Tuesday with highs in the upper 80s.

UPDATE: Duquesne Light said less than 100 customers were without service as of 6 a.m. Tuesday and their service will be restored by noon.
