Richland Traffic Blotter: Rear-End Collisions, Truck Rolls Into Home

Collision at Intersection of Route 910 and Route 8

An 18-year-old driver ran into the back of a 2005 Chevy Equinox at about 3 p.m. Nov. 16 at the intersection of Routes 910 and 8 and then left the scene, according to a report.

Jeremy Cox of Allison Park told police he did not see any damage and did not think he had to stop, the report said. Police advised him that he did need to stop.

The driver of the vehicle that was hit — Jason Beigay, 29, of Tarentum — told police he pulled his Chevy Equinox into the nearby  parking lot after the rear-end collision, but the other vehicle kept going, the report stated. Beigay chased the 1999 Subara Outback and got a license plate number, police said.

West Deer police stopped Cox, who acknowledged the rear-end collision, the report said. Cox told police he did not see any damage and did not think he had to stop so he proceeded home, according to the report.

Cox was cited with a summary offense.

Mazda Truck Rolls Into Richland Township Home

A Richland Township home was damaged at about 4 p.m. Nov. 13 when a 2002 Mazda truck rolled into it, police said.

The truck owner, John D. Miller of Tarentum, told police the unattended truck jumped out of gear and rolled backward across Richland Road, across a yard and then struck a house in the 5400 block, the police report said.

No injuries were reported by occupants of the house. The checked the house and found it to be structurally sound, the report said.


Collision in Northtowne Square

A 62-year-old Verona woman was transported to the hospital Nov. 8 after a two-vehicle collision in Northtowne Square in Richland Township, police said.

Diana Criscito was driving north on Northtowne Mall Drive at about 5:15 p.m. when she ran a stop sign at the intersection with Northtowne Square Drive and hit a vehicle, police said.

Criscito was transported to UPMC Shadyside Hospital by . Her 2009 Jeep Compass was towed by .

The driver of the second vehicle was Faith Delong, 66, of Valencia. Her 2000 Chevrolet Blazer was towed by Fleming Tire & Auto Service Inc.

 

Woman Runs into Back of Hampton Police Car

A 2004 Toyota Prius ran into the back of a Hampton police car around 8:15 p.m. Nov. 2, according to a police report.

Karen Florian, 55, of Gibsonia, said she was travelling north on Route 8/William Flynn Highway in the 5300 block when she changed lanes and did not realize the car in front of her was stopped, police said.

That vehicle was a Hampton police car driven by Christopher Finnigan, 42, of Pittsburgh, police said. The 2010 Crown Victoria police car was towed by Zang Auto Body, according to the police report.

A witness stated he observed the rear of the police car being lifted up from the road as the Toyota hit it, said police. 

Finnigan had pain in his back, waist area and leg; he was taken to UPMC Passavant by a private vehicle to be evaluated and treated, the police report said.
