Richland House Fire Causes Little Damage

Firefighters contain blaze on Meadow Lane to basement.

A house fire in Richland Township Saturday night was limited to the basement and caused little damage, according to a fire official.

The owner of the Bakerstown home at 6053 Meadow Lane heard a popping noise, then the smoke detectors went off, said Dave McWilliams, assistant chief for the .

She called her son, who lives nearby, and he found the fire in the basement, said McWilliams. The son turned the garden hose on the fire until firefighters arrived, he added.

Firefighters put 100 gallons or less of water on the fire, McWilliams said.

As the fire trucks were preparing to leave, McWilliams said the next step will be for a fire marshal to investigate the fire and determine its cause, which he said was probably electrical.

The owner was not able to stay in the home Saturday night because electrical service was cut off, McWilliams said.

Richland, North Hampton and West Deer volunteer fire departments responded to the fire, said McWilliams. That response is standard procedure for a structure fire, he said.
