Police Working with FBI on Continued Investigation into Pine Jewelry Heist

A similar armed robbery recently took place at a nearby jewelry store in Seven Fields.

Northern Regional police continue to investigate a robbery from two months ago in which three masked men robbed a jewelry salesman in the Pine Tree Shoppes parking lot.

Police Chief T. Robert Amann said officers are working with the FBI on the investigation. No arrests have been made yet.

The daylight robbery took place May 8 outside the Grafner Brothers Jewelry Store along Perry Highway.

Amann told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review the victim had parked his car when he saw three men dressed in black and wearing masks approach him. At least one man had a knife, according to the chief.

“The salesman got out of his car and took off running,” Amann told the Trib.

While one of the suspects followed the salesman, the other men broke the window of his car and grabbed a bag containing jewelry. Various reports have estimated the value of the jewelry at $1 million.

That wasn’t the only major jewelry heist to recently take place in the area.

On July 2, four to five armed men robbed the Moses Jewelry store on Route 228 in Seven Fields.

According to Cranberry Police, the suspects broke the glass jewelry display cases in the store and emptied the contents into bags. Numerous watches and rings were taken during the robbery, police said.

A value for the items has been assessed in excess of $250,000. No one was injured in the robbery.

One suspect, who had not covered his face, is a black male. The other suspects had their faces covered during the robbery.

Despite a search of the area shortly after arriving on the scene, police were unable to locate the thieves.

Sgt. Chuck Mascellino said investigators are exploring all possibilities in the incident, including whether it is related to the jewelry robbery in Pine.

“There is nothing definitive right now,” he said.
