Police Motorcycle Donated by Ibis Tek

Northern Regional Police Department is the recipient of Harley Davidson.

Northern Regional Police Department has a new motorcycle thanks to a donation from Ibis Tek.

The 2007 Harley Davidson FLHP Road King replaces the department's previous motorcycle, which was purchased from Kilbuck Police Department when it disbanded, said Chief A. Robert Amann.

Ibis Tek works with law enforcement agencies throughout the country, Amann said.

"We feel very fortunate [that Ibis Tek] offered this to our police department," said Amann. "We appreciate what they do for Northern Regional Police Department."

Ibis Tek LLC is a veteran-owned small business that designs, manufactures and tests specialized products for military and law enforcement customers, as well as offering a host of other products and services, according to its website. It has offices in Saxonburg and Butler.

Asked why the company made the donation, Ibis Tek President and CEO Tom Buckner responded in an email:

"Ibis Tek supports most of the regional police forces in our area as we do with the Department of Defense. We had a motorcycle which we made some modifications to and showed the motorcycle at a number of police shows.

"Since the use of the vehicle was no longer needed, I thought the local police departments that operated motorcycles would ... benefit from this cycle, hence why I gave it to Northern Regional."

Amann said the motorcycle will be used on heavily traveled roads where speeding is a problem.

Northern Regional Officer Timothy Spontak, who is assigned to motorcycle duty, also will monitor intersections for stop sign violations.

The motorcycle is custom painted with Northern Regional Police Department airbrushed graphics. It has a custom LED headlight manufactured by Ibis Tek and a factory-installed siren along with Whelen LED red/blue emergency lighting.

The motorcycle is not the first piece of Ibis Tek equipment used by Northern Regional.

Ibis Tek also makes the front protective bumpers that are installed on Northern Regional police cars, said Amann. Those large bumpers have saved the department, and ultimately the taxpayers, a lot of money by protecting the vehicles on deer strikes, he added.
