Pine Traffic Blotter: Turning Left on Route 19 Leads to Collision; Deer Carcass Distracts Driver

Volkswagen Jetta Making Left Turn on Route 19 Collides with Nissan

On Aug. 11, a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta turning left into on Route 19 in Pine Township collided with another vehicle, according to a report.

Allison Quigley, 21, of Gibsonia told police she was in the left southbound lane around 6:30 p.m. when a vehicle stopped in the right northbound lane to let her make the turn, police said.

As she was turning left, Quigley saw a 2010 Nissan Sentra coming north in the left lane, said police.

“[Quigley] said she hesitated and then began to make the turn. She realized she would not make it and tried to turn back to the right out of [the Nissan’s] way, but could not do so in time,” said police.

Rammohan Kanimeni, 25, of Des Plaines, IL, said he saw the Volkswagen trying to make the turn and “blew his horn several times, but could not stop in time to avoid a collision,” the report said.

The Nissan Sentra had to be towed because of major damage to the front driver’s side, police said.

No one involved in the crash reported any injuries, according to the report.

 

Man Looks At Deer Carcass, Runs Into Back of Vehicle

At about 10 a.m. on Aug. 10, a 51-year-old Pittsburgh man took his eyes off the road to look at a deer carcass lying on the side of Babcock Boulevard and ran into the back of a vehicle that had stopped in front of him, Northern Regional police reported.

Geoffrey Metz told police that when he looked up he saw a 2006 Dodge Durango in front of him, but could not stop in time, said police.

Jennifer Messina, 34, of Valencia had stopped the Durango on Babcock behind a vehicle that was making a left turn onto North Pine Circle, the report said.
