News Nearby: Ross Police Say Woman Admits to Making Up Carjacking Story
Woman told police she fabricated story about the attempted carjacking in the parking lot of Burlington Coat Factory because of pressure in her personal life.
A woman who told she was the victim of an attempted carjacking in the parking lot of the in the parking lot on McKnight Road on July 17, now admits she made up the entire event.
she was putting her child in her car when a man grabbed her from behind and said he wanted the car. She claimed she screamed, but that the man refused to let her go, struck her in the face, and then eventually ran off.
"In the investigation of this reported attempted carjacking our detectives immediately encountered inconsistencies in the recollection of events by the victim," Ross detective Brian Kohlhepp said in a statement.

"Through the use of surveillance video her statements were further discounted. The victim eventually recanted her statement and advised that she made up the entire event. She stated that this was due to pressure she was under in her personal life," Kohlhepp said.
Police have not released the woman's name, and said that no decision has been made yet on whether she will face criminal charges.
