News Nearby: Moon Police Charge Maintenance Man with Stealing Prescription Pills

 say a Waterford Landing maintenance man used his keys to enter tenants' apartments and steal prescription pills. 

Richard M. Jugovich, 57, who also resides in the apartment complex, is accused of waiting for tenants to leave and then entering their apartments to steal Vicodin and other prescriptions, according to a police report. 

Moon Police detectives arrested the man Wednesday following a sting. Click the media above for footage of the arrest. 

Waterford Landing residents reported coming home to repeatedly find pills missing and bottles rearranged, but found no signs of forced entry into their homes. 

Police said a woman who lives alone at Waterford Landing found pills for Vicodin and clonezepam missing, but was baffled that no apparent break-in had occurred. 

The woman's household employee told police she would often hear light knocks on the door during the middle of the day when her employer was gone.

On one occasion, she said a man knocked and opened the door, which was locked with a chain. He quickly locked the door with a key and left. The woman watched the suspect ride off on a golf cart used by maintenance staff, according to a police report. 

Another resident of the apartment told police that for nearly a year prescription pills went missing from her dining room table. 

On one occasion in August, she returned home to find her pill bottles rearranged. 

"She was traumatized at the sight of the bottles and sat at the dining room table and wept," wrote Officer Joseph Brace in a report. 

Police interviewed Jugovich in August. He denied any involvement in the thefts. 

On Sept. 12, Brace and Detective William Lonkert hid inside a victim's apartment while she was gone. During their surveillance, they heard a faint knock on the door and heard a key unlock the door. A man entered the apartment, according to a statement from Police Chief Leo McCarthy. 

The man, later identified as Jugovich, picked up a prescription pill bottle, police said. 

Police ordered Jugovich down at gunpoint. He has been charged with five counts of felony criminal trespass, four counts of felony burglary and theft by unlawful taking, possessing instruments of crime and drug possession. 

Following his arrest, Jugovich complained of chest pains and was treated and released from Sewickley Valley Hospital. He is lodged at the Allegheny County Jail. 

It is unclear whether Juogovich is still employed at Waterford Landing. An apartment property manager could not be reached for comment. 

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 18, according to court documents.
