Nearby: Mars Area High School Evacuated After Bomb Threat

This is the third bomb threat at the school since February.

Mars Area High School in Adams Township was evacuated Tuesday morning after a bomb threat.

Adams Township Police Chief Bill Westerman said the threat was discovered inside a boys bathroom at the school at about 11 a.m.

All students, faculty and staff were sent across Route 228 to Mars Area Middle School while police waited for bomb sniffing dogs from Allegheny County and a private firm hired by the district to search the school, Westerman said.

The high school students were housed in the middle school gym before being transported by school buses back to the high school. Students were dismissed at the regular time from the high school.

Westerman said police did not discover anything inside the building. They cleared the school at about 2:15 p.m.

This is the third bomb threat at the high school since February. Westerman said a student was arrested for the February incident. No one was charged in the March 7 bomb threat.

Westerman said he does not believe the same person was responsible for Tuesday's bomb threat. Police continue to investigate the incident, he said.
