Gibsonia Man Charged With DUI After Route 19 Accident

Police arrested and charged a 43-year-old Gibsonia man with driving under the influence June 3 after his 2005 Volkswagen Jetta ran into the back of a vehicle, which bumped into another vehicle in a construction zone near Wexford Plaza.

A preliminary hearing for John Direnzo Jr. is set for July 15 before Magisterial District Judge Regis Welsh Jr.

Officers arrested Direnzo at the scene of the crash at 1 a.m. on Route 19/Perry Highway in Pine Township, according to a police report.

Direnzo ran into the back of a 2010 Kia Soul driven by Paul Stein, 19, of Allison Park, police said. Stein’s vehicle hit the rear of a 2003 Chevrolet Impala driven by Megan Braun, 22, of Pittsburgh, according to police.

A flagman had stopped both vehicles, police said.

“The highway was an active construction zone at the time of the accident,” the report said.

Direnzo’s Jetta was damaged and was towed, according to the report.
