Crime Blotter: Windows Shot With BB Gun

Two men charged with disorderly conduct in incident involving marijuana, police said.

Windows Shot With BB Gun

Police received three reports in the past two weeks of windows being shot by a BB gun, according to reports from the Northern Regional Police Department.

Two of those reports came from in Wexford.

The day care's owner, Mona Bhatia, told police she discovered the broken window after a child cut her hand on a small piece of glass, according to the police report.

Bhatia recovered the glass and BB from the floor under the window, police said. The window is on the Swinderman Road side of the building.

This was the second incident the day care reported in the past two weeks.

The first incident was reported April 27 when a worker found a BB on the frame of a damaged window. The cost of replacing or repairing the window was estimated at $1,000, the police report said.

“Bhatia also has been finding bags of empty beer cans and bottles in their dumpster,” the police report said. Bhatia is requesting extra patrols of the area.

In another incident, Frank Steiner, 54, of Gibsonia reported April 26 that he found what appeared to be a BB or pellet hole in the front window of his house on White Pine Drive, police said. Steiner told police he had no idea when it happened but said it had to have been within the past month, the police report said.

Northern Regional Police Department investigated a rash of incidents in which car windows were shot out by BB or pellet guns in typically quiet residential neighborhoods in late March and early April.

At that time police also received reports of windows being broken in homes – one with a BB, the other with a rock.

Two Men Cited for Disorderly Conduct

Citations were issued to two Gibsonia men about 1 a.m. May 7 after police smelled marijuana emanating from the car in which they were sitting, according to a report from Northern Regional Police Department.

Michael Evan Hagan, 19, and Michael Patrick Greager, 20, were charged with disorderly conduct, court records state.

The men were sitting in a 1996 Volkswagen that was parked on Willow Creek Court in Gibsonia near a construction site where there are no houses, police said.

As an officer approached the car, he noticed a strong odor of marijuana, according to the report.

“I stated to [the driver] Hagan that I detected an odor of marijuana emanating from inside of the vehicle. Hagan denied having any marijuana and consented to a search of his vehicle,” the report said. Greager was in the front passenger seat.

After further questioning, Hagan said there was marijuana under the passenger seat and a silver metal pipe behind the same seat, according to the police report.

Police seized both and later entered them into evidence, the report said.

Both parties were advised that citations would be issued and they were released, according to the report.

Glenshaw Woman Arrested

A 46-year-old Glenshaw woman was arrested May 9 and taken to Allegheny County Jail for failure to appear in court, Northern Regional Police Department said.

Barbara Ellen Tate was taken into custody after she was detained at Walmart for a different incident, said police.

Initially, Walmart security had contacted Northern Regional Police Department about a woman who tried to take a bottle of vitamins, the report said.

A check of court records showed a bench warrant had been issued for Tate's arrest for failure to appear in court, according to court records. She has been charged with two counts of DUI and one of careless driving for an incident in Shaler Township, court records show.
