Burglars Strike Community Thrift Center in Ross Township, Unable to Crack Safe

Police said the break-in occurred sometime after the store closed on Wednesday.

Ross Township police say a burglar or burglars smashed a front window and broke into the Community Thrift Store at 3255 Babcock Boulevard sometime after the store closed Wednesday evening.

"They tried working on the store's safe for quite a while, but were unable to open it," said Detective Brian Kohlhepp. "It does not appear anything was taken."

Kohlhepp said the safe was an older model, free standing, very sturdy and very heavy, too heavy to carry out of the store.

“The safe was cut with a chop saw or some kind of power tool. There were multiple attempted cuts through the safe," he said. “I don’t know the high yield they were expecting from a thrift store. This was odd."

Police ask that anyone with any information call them at 412-931-9070.
