83-Year-Old Richland Woman Dies in Auto Accident

An 83-year-old Richland woman died after her car apparently ran off Route 910 and into a West Deer creek, according to reports.

Mae Scheerbaum of 3108 Pastureview Drive died sometime between yesterday afternoon and this morning, according to KDKA-TV.

West Deer Police Chief Jonathan Lape said the car was discovered around 7:30 a.m. by a person driving by looking at the creek.

"The water was up to the dashboard of the car. The driver’s side door was open. The keys were taken out of the ignition,” Lape told KDKA, noting the water depth was about five feet.

"The depth of water and maybe the slight current pushed her down the creek approximately 500 yards," Lape continued in the televised interview. "Her body was recovered down there with the keys in her pocket."
