Letter: Mark Donovan, Where Are You?

Former Wexford resident Paul Martin wants to deliver a long-overdue 1977 All Star Certificate for a boy named Mark Donovan who played baseball with Brad Mar Pine.

Hi. My name is Paul Martin. I grew up in Wexford in the 1970s and 1980s and played baseball within Brad-Mar-Pine for about 10 years from minor through senior leagues.  I pre-dated tee ball.

I happened to be at my parents' house yesterday and my mother had brought some old things down from the attic for me to go through. One of the items was an All Star Certificate for a boy named Mark Donovan from 1977 that somehow went undelivered.  A scanned copy is attached (in the photo box).

My father was the manager of that All-Star team.  During that time, there were two All-Star teams from the Major League.  One was made up mostly of 12-year-olds who traveled to tournaments trying to get to the Little League World Series. The other was made up of 11-year-olds and they played a single game against the All-Stars of the Hot Stove League.

This certificate was for the 11-year-old All-Stars from the Major League.  I too was on that team and I remember that during that year, the Major League team lost to the Hot Stove League team for the first time ever.  The home plate umpire made a terrible call at the end of the game.

Anyway, I have decided that in this age of the Internet and Facebook, maybe I can locate Mark Donovan to get him his certificate 35 years after the fact.

I would appreciate it if the current Brad-Mar-Pine board would be willing to help out in the effort by posting about this on your website and/or Facebook.  Maybe someone who remembers him or still knows him might see it.  My best guess would have him between 45 and 47 years old at present.  Thank you.

Sincerely,
