Pine-Richland Wrestlers Compete in WPIALs

The Pine-Richland wrestling team travels to Norwin to compete in the WPIAL tournament.

Members of the Pine-Richland varsity wrestling team are taking part in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League competition through Saturday.

Last Saturday, the team competed in the Sections championship tournament, where several Rams placed. Senior Ben Balish, Pine-Richland’s top wrestler, placed first in his weight class.

Freshman Brendan Burnham placed thirdin the tournament. Seniors Austin Killian and Andrew Wood placed fourth in their respective weight classes.

Senior Luke Esswein finished in fifth place, wrapping up an impressive showing for the Rams wrestling team.

On Thursday, the team traveled to Norwin for the first day of WPIAL competition. These students will compete in the event: seniors Ben Balish, Austin Killian, Luke Esswein, Andrew Wood and freshman Brendan Burnham.

Wrestlers who place in the top three in the WPIAL competition will travel to state competition, according to the WPIAL wrestling website.
