We Rock Camp fundraiser concert

Event Overview:

The youth who most recently participated in the “We Rock Workshop” will be showing off their new musical knowledge at the “We Rock Workshop” fundraiser concert being held on Thursday, June 30 at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale, Pa.

The “We Rock Workshop” is a residency program sponsored by both the Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) and Creative.Life.Support, the non-profit arm of Mr. Smalls Funhouse. The workshop is led by Liz Berlin of Pittsburgh-based band Rusted Root that teaches youth, including current and former foster youth, as well as youth involved with other DHS systems, to open up creatively through music.

In the workshop, youth participants explore the creation of music and look into the future for ways to have musical meaning in their lives.  The 10 week program culminates with the recording of original songs created by the participants and a final showcase of their talents at the “We Rock Workshop” fundraiser concert.  The concert will also feature performances by dancers who are former foster youth and the event will be emceed by a former foster youth.

The youth who participated in the most recent “We Rock Workshop” have just completed eight weeks of recording workshops at the Mr. Smalls Recording Studio, during which they recorded five songs, and are currently participating in performance workshops to prepare for the upcoming “We Rock Workshop” fundraiser concert.
