American Diabetes Association EXPO

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald is encouraging residents to attend the American Diabetes Association EXPO, which takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh.

The event is free and includes health screenings, healthy cooking demonstrations, educational workshops, and activities that emphasize healthy eating and physical activity for all ages. Leading experts will be on hand to discuss diabetes management and prevention.

“November is American Diabetes Month, and I encourage residents to attend the free expo on Saturday to get the latest information on preventing and managing diabetes and its deadly complications,” said Fitzgerald.

“This is our area’s largest health event and the only diabetes expo in Pennsylvania. We are fortunate to have this resource available to help keep ourselves and our families healthy. The expo takes place the same day as the Veterans Day Parade, making it easy for families to enjoy both activities.”

While there is no known cure for Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes may be reversed through early detection and lifestyle changes. Treating both types involves medicine, diet, and exercise to control blood sugar levels and to prevent symptoms and problems.
