UPDATE: Winter Weather Advisory Extended Until 1 p.m. Sunday

UPDATE: The National Weather Service has extended the winter weather advisory in effect for southwestern Pennsylvania until 1 p.m. Sunday.

An accumulation of up to another inch of snow is forecast as snow showers continue through the morning, the weather service stated in an 8:56 a.m. announcement. Blowing snow will reduce visibility and create hazardous travel conditions.

Winds from the west will be at around 16 to 18 mph with gusts up to 31 mph. The high temperature is expected to reach 24 degrees.

Here is the National Weather Service forecast for the Pine-Richland area:

Today: Snow showers likely and areas of blowing snow before noon, then patchy blowing snow and scattered snow showers between noon and 4 p.m., then a slight chance of snow showers after 4 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 24. West wind between 16 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. Total daytime snow accumulation of around an inch possible. 

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14. West wind between 10 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. 

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 31. West wind between 10 and 14 mph. 

Monday Night: A chance of snow showers, mainly after 3 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. Southwest wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Just when everyone was talking about the mild winter we've been having, along comes Old Man Winter making his presence known.

His snow showers and blowing snow will continue into Saturday night with winds gusting over 35 mph and temperatures falling into the teens with wind chills going below zero, according to the National Weather Service.

A winter weather advisory for snow remains in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday for southwestern Pennsylvania, east central Ohio and northern West Virginia, including the northern Panhandle.

The advisory means snowfall will cause travel difficulties.

Accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are forecast by the weather service.

Here is the National Weather Service's forecast for the Pine-Richland area as of 4 p.m. Saturday:

Sunday: A chance of snow showers, mainly before 11 a.m. Cloudy, with a high near 25. Wind chill values as low as -3. Breezy, with a west wind between 15 and 21 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. 

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14. West wind between 11 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. 

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 32. West wind between 10 and 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. 

Monday Night: A slight chance of snow showers after 4 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
