Winter Weather Advisory: Mix of Snow, Sleet, Freezing Rain Predicted for Morning Rush

The storm is expected to begin after midnight.

There could be very little rush to the Monday-morning rush hour. The National Weather service in Pittsburgh has issued a winter-weather advisory from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday for most of Western Pennsylvania, including Pine and Richland Townships.

A mixture of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected overnight into Monday morning. Because of very cold ground and snow pack, roads and sidewalks are expected to be icy.

Here is a more detailed look at the forecast:

  • Sunday Night: Snow and freezing rain before 5am, then snow, freezing rain, and sleet. Low around 29. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half-inch possible.
  • Monday: Rain or freezing rain, becoming all rain after 11 a.m. High near 43. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter- and a half-inch possible.
  • Monday Night: A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 43. Southwest wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New precipitation amounts between a 10th and a quarter-inch possible.
