Wexford Man Sentenced for Check-Cashing Scheme

Larry 'Pappy' Johnson sentenced in federal court to eight months incarceration.

 A 21-year-old Wexford resident was  sentenced in federal court  to eight months incarceration on his conviction of conspiracy, U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton announced Thursday.

Larry "Pappy" Johnson  and others conspired to pass forged checks at banks, which were then negotiated prior to presentment, according to information presented to the court.

Senior U.S. District Judge Alan N. Bloch considered the seriousness of the offense and the defendant’s criminal history in imposing the sentence, Hickton's announcement said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory C. Melucci prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.

Hickton commended the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the U.S. Secret Service and the Financial Crimes Task Force for the investigation leading to the prosecution of Johnson.
