Three Tickets Match Numbers in Mega Millions Drawing for $640 Million Jackpot

Tickets were purchased in three different states.

The magic numbers are 2, 4, 23, 38, 46 and the Mega Ball is 23.

If those are the numbers on the Mega Millions lottery card you bought this week, then you've got some celebrating to do.

Three tickets matched all six numbers in Friday night's drawing. They were bought in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland.

Those tickets will split the estimated $640 million jackpot, which comes to about $213 million for each ticket. Not bad.

Friday's Mega Millions jackpot is the largest lottery jackpot in world history, surpassing the previous record of $390 million, according to the Mega Millions website.

"If one ticket matches all six numbers for the half-billion dollar mega-jackpot, the winner would have the choice of receiving the full jackpot in 26 annual payments of about $24.6 million, or a cash option of approximately $462 million," the website states.

Of course, three tickets won so everything is divided by three, which still is not chump change.

"This jackpot has been growing since Jan. 24, when Mega Millions had its most recent jackpot winner," the Mega Millions website states. "The jackpot (had) rolled 18 times without a winner. The odds of winning the jackpot are approximately one in 176 million. The odds of winning any of the Mega Millions prizes are approximately 1 in 40."

Mega Millions is played in 42 states plus the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands.
