UPDATE: Storms Barrel Through The Area, Tree Downed in Wexford

Duquesne Light continues work to restore power.

UPDATE: About 250 Duquesne Light customers remain without service as of 6 a.m. Thursday.

The power outages were triggered by Wednesday's severe thunderstorms that barreled through the area, bringing wind, rain and lightning.

stayed busy Wednesday answering calls as fire alarms were activated during the storm, but no fires were found, according to Capt. Mark Hetzel.

Firefighters removed a tree that had come down across Brown Road, near Pineview Drive, in Wexford. The tree was leaning against a telephone wire when crews arrived, he said.

Hetzel said they also checked out calls at , which are behind Pine Tree Shoppes in Wexford, as well as other calls.

Duquesne Light spokesman Joey Vallarian said in an email that crews are out in the field assessing damage and making repairs. He did not have an estimated time for power to be restored.

A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect for Allegheny County until 9 p.m.
