Update: I-79 Work Canceled for Friday Night

Single-lane restrictions were scheduled for stretch of highway in Marshall between Exits 73 and 75.

UPDATE -- Work on I-79 that was scheduled for Friday night has been canceled because of the weather.

The roadwork would have taken traffic down to single lanes in the area of the bridge over Mingo Road between Exits 73 and 75 in Marshall Township.

Here is the story Pine-Richland Patch published earlier this week that details the project:

Once again, PennDOT District 11 says single-lane traffic will occur in both directions on I-79 Friday night in the area of the bridge over Mingo Road between Exits 73 and 75 in Marshall Township.

Previous plans to do this work were postponed because of inclement weather.

Restrictions will occur from 10 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday, with one exception. Because of a Pirates home game and other downtown events, outbound (northbound) restrictions will not begin until midnight Friday.

"Crews will be milling and paving median shoulders and painting edge lines," the PennDOT announcement says.

It's all part of a $10 million project to improve several I-79 bridges that is scheduled to be completed this fall.

The prime contractor for the project is Swank Associated Companies Inc. of New Kensington.

To keep up with traffic conditions on major roads, PennDOT encourages motorists to log on to 511pa.com or call 511 before they hit the road.
