Severe Thunderstorms Move into Area

National Weather Service predicts strong winds and hail.

Severe thunderstorms started moving through Pine and Richland townships about 2:45 p.m. Monday with strong winds and large hail predicted by the National Weather Service.

A hazardous weather outlook for southwest Pennsylvania was updated about 11 a.m. to predict a slight risk of severe thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

“The primary threat will be damaging winds and large hail,” the weather service noted. “However, tornado development cannot be ruled out.”

Wind gusts of more than 35 mph will be common Monday night, the weather service added.

 Rainfall amounts of up to an inch are possible, the National Weather Service said. “Rainfall in excess of two inches could lead to small-stream flooding.”
