UPDATE: Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Effect for Allegheny County

Flood warning in effect until 6 p.m.

UPDATED: The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch and a flood warning Monday for Allegheny County. 

The watch is in effect until 7 p.m. The flood warning is in effect until 6 p.m. for urban areas and small streams in Allegheny, Westmoreland, Washington and Fayette counties.

"Additional showers and thunderstorms have the potential of producing 1 to 2 inches of rain this afternoon," according to the National Weather Service. "Several roads and homes are flooded in Fayette City, Belle Vernon and Washington Township. Highway 201 is closed near Donner Run in Fayette City."

The National Weather Service said a flood warning means flooding is imminent or has been reported. Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.

A severe thunderstorm watch is issued when conditions are favorable for the development of severe weather, according to the National Weather Service. It advises people to review severe weather safety rules and be prepared to move to a place of safety if threatening weather approaches.
