Severe Thunderstorms Warnings, Watches Issued

Gusty winds and rain predicted.

SECOND UPDATE -- In a volatile weather day, the National Weather Service again issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Allegheny County shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The warning is in effect until 4:30 p.m. 

"At 4:05 p.m., National Weather Service Doppler Radar continued to indicate a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph," the service stated.

UPDATE -- The National Weather Service has downgraded its severe thunderstorm warning to a watch for Allegheny County until 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Gusty winds and rain are likely, the service said. 

The warning remained in effect for Butler County until 2:15 p.m., with hail and damaging winds of up to 60 mph forecast.

Earlier this afternoon, this is what we reported:

At 1:24 p.m. Dopple Radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph, the National Weather Service reported.

The storm was located near Mars, moving northeast at 50 mph, the weather service reported.

"If you are in the path of this storm, prepare immediately for damaging winds, destructive hail and deadly cloud-to-ground lightning," the weather service said.

"People outside should move to a shelter, preferably inside a strong building but away from windows," according to the weather service.
