UPDATE: Route 8 in Shaler Township Reopens After Truck Removed from Pine Creek

Truck driver was not seriously injured.

UPDATE: Route 8 in Shaler Township reopened about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday after a daylong operation to remove a tractor-trailer from Pine Creek in the area of Elfinwild Road.

The northbound lanes and one southbound lane were closed most of the day, according to a report from wpxi.com.

Truck driver Rick Snyder said he hydroplaned, swerved to miss a car and then crashed into the creek, wpxi.com reports.

Route 8 is closed in both directions this morning as emergency responders call in a wrecker to remove a tractor-trailer that crashed into Pine Creek in the area of Elfinwild Road in Shaler Township.

The tractor-trailer may have hydroplaned before it crashed into Pine Creek, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The driver was not seriously hurt, the Post-Gazette reported.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch that is in effect until 4 p.m. for Allegheny County and other areas of Pennsylvania. A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding.

Streams and creeks are running at high levels because of last night's rainfall of one to two inches, the weather service stated on its website. Rain is expected to continue today, causing some streams and creeks to come out of their banks, the NWS stated.
