Roadwork Project Revs Up Again on Route 8

A $3.7 million project to improve Route 8 in Hampton and Shaler townships resumes Wednesday.

Traveling on Route 8 south of Richland Township? Get ready to wait.

A $3.7 million project to improve Route 8 in Hampton and Shaler townships resumes Wednesday, weather permitting, according to an announcement from PennDOT District 11.

Work on the four-mile stretch between Butler Plank Road and Wildwood Road began in June 2010.

It includes milling and resurfacing, drainage, guide rail, signing and pavement markings, signals and other improvements, PennDOT said.

Single-lane closures will occur in both directions and PennDOT said this will be the schedule:

  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday
  • 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday-Thursday nights
  • 8 p.m. on Fridays to 10 a.m. on Saturdays

"At least one lane will remain open in each direction at all times," PennDOT said. "The restrictions will continue through early August when the project will be completed."

Lane Construction Corp. of Pittsburgh is the prime contractor.
