Pearce Mill Road to Close for Repairs on Cave-In

Work will be completed in November.

Pearce Mill Road will close July 11 for repairs on a caved-in portion of the state-maintained road in Pine Township.

Repairs on the cave-in, located just north of Route 910, are expected to be completed by November, said PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan.

The road will be closed from Route 910 to the area north of the slide. Only local traffic will be able to travel portions of the road north and south of the work area, said Cowan.

A detour will take motorists on Route 910 to Babcock Boulevard and then north to the Red Belt / Warrendale Road.

Pearce Mill Road is a major north-south artery in Pine Township on which Northern Regional Police Department's station, Pine Township Municipal Building and Pine Community Park are located.

Northern Regional Police Chief T. Robert Amann said, "Emergency services will have to work around it and go by the detours to get to certain areas."

Response times for police should not be hampered, he said, because the officers are already in the field and not dispatched from the station on Pearce Mill.

Amann said he met Friday with representatives from PennDOT and the company that will be doing the work, Joseph B. Fay Co. The Fay company also is working on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Wexford Volunteer Fire Co., Richland EMS and McCandless-Franklin Park EMS have been notified, Amann said. Pine-Richland School District also will need to plan on how to reroute buses during the road closure, he said.

Another major detour in place already in Pine Township is for Graham Road, which connects Pearce Mill Road to the Red Belt. It is closed because of major work on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
