PennDOT Cancels Route 28 Closing Tonight

PennDOT postpones work because of weather.

If you're thinking about traveling Route 28 tonight, you might want to reconsider.

Some lane closures that had been planned for northbound and southbound express lanes have been cancelled for tonight. But the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation does plan to reduce southbound traffic to a single lane south of the 40th Street Bridge from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

PennDOT had planned to close northbound Route 28 from 8 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Saturday to permit crews to replace a 60-inch water line along the stretch of road between the 31st Street Bridge and the 40th Street Bridge.

The planned detour would have taken northbound motorists onto the 31st Bridge, then left onto Penn Avenue and north onto Butler Street, then left onto the 40th Street Bridge before ending at northbound Route 28.

PennDOT also has postponed a planned closure of the southbound express lane that travels under the 40th Street Bridge.
