New Season of Area's 'Farm Kings' Premieres Tonight

The Middlesex Township based King family are the subjects of a hit reality show on GAC.

The second season of Farm Kings kicks off tonight at 9 p.m. on Great American Country.

The hit GAC television series follows the Kings, a Butler County family who operate Freedom Farms. The show takes viewers through the trials and triumphs—all while showing their work ethic and deep family bond.

The cameras follow the clan of nine brothers—Joe, Daniel, Pete, Luke, Sam, John, Paul, Timothy and Ben—and one sister Elizabeth, along with their mother Lisa.

The eldest brother, Joe, co-manages with brothers Tim, the "Head Farmer," and Pete, the "Human Harvester." Younger brother Dan, “the Utility Man,” wants to take on more responsibility and their mom Lisa is ever-present making sure the
work gets done on a daily basis.

“Farm Kings celebrates and reflects GAC’s passion for family, home, food, and American culture,” GAC GM Sarah Trahern said in a statement.  “Our viewers connect in a big way to this hardworking farm."

Freedom Farms has a market on Route 8 at 795 Pittsburgh Road in Butler. Nearby is Boldy’s Homemade Goodies, which the Kings bought in October 2009 and renovated.

In the new episodes, the family is preparing for the new farming season, beyond produce into meats with the addition of cows and pigs and beefing up their advance-pay  program of community supported agriculture—operations that some brothers are more hesitant about than others, according to the network.

Overnight bakery shifts, early-morning picking and the family selling their fresh, local food reminds us of the importance of knowing where our food comes from, and of buying local and eating healthy.

The King family is no stranger to giving back. The network says the new season will show the brothers hosting a benefit for their favorite charity, the Special Olympics, and offering themselves in a “Win a Date with a King” auction.

Farm Kings airs on 147 on Comcast, Channel 165 on DISH Network and Channel 326 on DIRECTV. For those with Armstrong Cable, GAC is channel 484. To figure out the channel on your local cable provider, click here.
