UPDATE: National Weather Service Issues Winter Storm Warning

Motorists are advised to avoid travel this evening.

UPDATE: The winter storm warning issued by  remains in effect until 1 p.m. Saturday.

Accumulations of a quarter inch of ice and 1 to 4 inches of snow and sleet are predicted.

"Extremely hazardous travel conditions are expected due to ice accumulation combined with sleet and snow," the weather service's website states. "Heavy ice accumulation can down tree limbs and power lines."

The  in Moon has issued a winter storm warning, from 7 p.m. today to 1 p.m. Saturday, that calls for a wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow.

The service said up to a quarter of an inch of ice and 1 to 2 inches of snow are expected to accumulate, making travel conditions treacherous. Downed trees and power lines may result from the heavy ice accumulation. 

Winter storm warnings are issued when weather conditions are expected to make travel hazardous or impossible, according to the service. Report travel conditions to the National Weather Service by calling 1-877-633-6772.
