Looking for Updates on All the Road Construction?

PennDOT keeps you informed with press releases, 511 and Twitter.

So, you're getting ready to travel I-79 or Route 28 or Route 19 -- all of which are under construction -- and you're wondering what's going on and if you should find another route altogether.

PennDOT has a number of ways to keep you informed about those projects and others in the Pittsburgh area.

You can register to receive updated traffic and roadwork press releases directly from PennDOT's District 11.

Here are the location preferences from which to choose:

  • All roadways and bridges in Allegheny, Beaver or Lawrence counties;
  • Weekend work and restrictions in Allegheny County (this will only include restrictions and work activities that occur on weekends);
  • Route 19 Wexford Flats Project;
  • Interstate 79; 
  • Route 28 (Allegheny Valley Expressway);
  • Parkway North (I-279);
  • Parkway East (I-376);
  • Parkway West (I-376) ;
  • West Liberty Avenue and Liberty Tunnel Improvements; 
  • Route 65 (Ohio River Boulevard); and
  • Route 48 Boston Bridge.

Another way to keep up with road conditions is through PennDOT’s 511 services in the Pittsburgh region.

Log on to www.511pa.com to check traffic cameras, local weather and traffic conditions.

"The 511 system also automatically feeds Twitter accounts with information such as incidents, construction notices and weather alerts. Motorists can also call 511 for similar information," according to a PennDOT press release.

If you prefer Twitter for updates, the Pittsburgh/Southwestern-region account is  www.twitter.com/511PAPittsburgh. It covers Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington and Westmoreland counties.
