I-79 in Marshall Expected to be Slow Saturday Morning

Interstate will be limited to single lanes each way in area of bridge over Mingo Road.

Got big plans this weekend? Let's hope they don't include traveling I-79 on Saturday morning.

The interstate will be limited to one lane northbound and southbound in the area of the bridge over Mingo Road between Exits 73 and 75 in Marshall Township, according to a PennDOT District 11 press release.

Restrictions will occur from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday. Crews will be cleaning and testing concrete barriers, PennDOT said.

Single-lane traffic will also occur on the ramp from northbound I-79 to Cranberry (Exit 76), which passes over southbound I-79.

For Pine-Richland travelers who use the Route 910 exit frequently, look for the stop sign to be replaced with a yield sign Monday.

At about 9 a.m. crews will begin work to create an acceleration lane and replace the temporary stop sign at the on-ramp from Route 910 to northbound I-79 with a yield sign, PennDOT said.

The new sign is expected to be in place by late morning.

The work is part of a $10 million project that is expected to be completed in the fall. Improvements are planned for:

  • Northbound and southbound bridges over Mingo Road.
  • Northbound and southbound bridges over Warrendale-Bayne Road.
  • The ramp from northbound I-79 to Cranberry (Exit 76), which passes over southbound I-79.
  • Work will also occur on a culvert that carries the east branch of Big Sewickley Creek under southbound I-79 south of Mingo Road.

All ramps and exits will remain open at this time.

The prime contractor for the project is Swank Associated Companies Inc. of New Kensington.

PennDOT always advises motorists "to use caution, slow down, and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area. Motorists are also reminded they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on major roadways before traveling."
