I-79 Improvements Continue Next Week Between Cranberry and I-279 Interchanges

UPDATE: Monday night's work has been canceled, PennDOT announced late Monday afternoon.

ORIGINAL STORY: Work to improve I-79 between the Cranberry (Exit 78) and I-279 interchanges (Exit 72) in Allegheny County will occur next week, April 9-13, weather permitting, PennDOT announced.

Crews will remove and install pavement markings, complete work for guide-rail installation and other minor improvements. 

Intermittent single-lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the following overnight restrictions Monday through Friday nights will occur next week:

• Single-lane closures (two lanes open) from 8 to 10 p.m.
• Double-lane closures (one lane open) from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.      

Outbound restrictions will be coordinated with the Penguins’ home game playoff schedule.

The work is included in a $10 million project to improve the I-79 bridges over Warrendale-Bayne Road and Mingo Road. The prime contractor for the project is Swank Construction Co. LLC of New Kensington.
