Traffic on I-79 Likely to be Slow Near Wexford Exit on Friday

Single-lane closures planned in both directions as crews work on Mingo Road overpass deck.

Traveling on I-79 near the Wexford exit -- which is where Pine-Richland commuters are most likely to enter and exit the highway -- will be slow for part of Friday because of lane closures, PennDOT District 11 announced.

One lane will be closed in both directions in the area of the bridge over Mingo Road, which is north of Exit 73 [Route 910/Wexford].

Restrictions will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Two of three lanes will remain open in each direction.

Weather permitting, crews will apply a protective coating on the new Mingo Road overpass deck, approaches and barrier.

The work is part of a $10 million project that is scheduled to be completed this fall. The prime contractor for the project is Swank Associated Companies Inc. of New Kensington.

The project includes deck replacements, latex overlays, expansion dam replacements, substructure repairs, bituminous paving, drainage and guide rail upgrades, pavement markings, culvert cleaning and stream restoration, and other improvements on several I-79 bridges.

All ramps and exits will remain open.
