Freeport Road Improvements Begin Today in Pine and Marshall

Construction will last through summer.

Starting today, motorists traveling through Pine and Marshall townships may want to avoid Freeport Road.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will begin work this morning to improve drainage, mill and resurface 1.5 miles of Freeport Road from Route 19 to Franklin Road. Intermittent single-lane, alternating-use traffic will occur as needed in work areas from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through late July to perform drainage improvements.

Milling and resurfacing activities are expected to begin in mid-July during nighttime operations. Additional information will be released prior to the night work occurring. Overall work will conclude in October 2011, according to PennDOT.

PennDOT spokesman James Struzzi said the project is part of a $3.2 million contract with A. Folino Construction in Oakmont for improvements on several roads in Allegheny County.

PennDOT advises motorists to use caution, slow down and be aware of changing traffic patterns when driving through the area. PennDOT also reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on major roadways before traveling.
