New Wendy’s ‘Prototype’ in the Works for Pine

The restaurant is proposed to be located at Bauerle's Greenhouse on Perry Highway.

A Wendy’s restaurant featuring the chain’s new look could be coming soon to Pine Township.

Tommy Morgan, the north region construction manager for Wendy’s, said the new restaurant would be located at the Bauerle’s Greenhouse on Route 19 and Booker Drive, near the Wexford Plaza.

The greenhouse would be torn down to make way for the new restaurant, Morgan said. At 3,246 square feet, the restaurant would feature Wendy’s new prototype design, including a sleek, modern design and an outdoor patio.

Wendy’s spokesman Denny Lynch noted to the Huffington Post that the new design disposes of the restaurant’s classic red faux-tile roof. There also will be tile or hardwood floors inside the restaurant instead of carpeting and more lounge chairs and cocktail-style tables.

The new location will replace the Wendy’s restaurant just a stone’s throw down the road in McCandless Township. Morgan said the Wendy’s located at 10490 Perry Highway would close once the new restaurant is open.

Pine Township planning officials are set to review the plans at their June 10 meeting. The plans already have be tabled once while the township engineers review a few items, according to Larry Kurpakus, Pine’s director of land development.

If the board recommends the plans, Wendy’s will next move before the Pine Township Supervisors for final approval at the June 17 meeting.

Morgan said he hopes to start construction on the restaurant in late summer. The new Wendy’s could open in time for the holidays, he said.
