Grocery store is located on Route 19 at North Chapel Drive intersection.

The newest grocery store in town -- ALDI in Wexford -- will open its doors to customers Oct. 13.

After an 8:45 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony, ALDI will open to the public and provide free reusable grocery bags to shoppers.

"This will be the 23rd Aldi location in the Pittsburgh market, and will feature an all-new, attractive, and easy-to-shop design," said Brent Laubaugh, ALDI Saxonburg division vice president, in an email.

“ALDI shoppers in Wexford will be delighted to find high-quality products at incredibly low prices every day,” said Laubaugh. “ALDI offers shoppers savings of up to 50 percent over traditional grocery retailers on more than 1,400 of the most frequently purchased items.”

ALDI eliminates overhead costs by offering smart, efficient practices, such as a grocery cart deposit system, through which shoppers insert a quarter to release a cart and receive the quarter back upon return, according to an Aldi press release.

Other cost-saving practices include a smaller store layout, open-carton displays, and encouraging the use of Aldi reusable shopping bags, the release said.

The new ALDI store in Wexford will employ 10 to 15 workers, Laubaugh said.

The grocery retailer plans to open more than 80 stores in the U.S. in 2011.
