Nearby: Sieb's Pub Preparing "Authentic" St. Patrick's Day Celebration

St. Patrick's Day is always the busiest day of the year at Sieb's Pub in the North Hills, but when the holiday falls on a weekend, look out.

"We're a true Irish Pub, we're Irish 365 days a year," said Rob Siebert, one of the seven family members who own and operate the pub at 3382 Babcock Boulevard. "So St. Patrick's Day is a bigger celebration for us and our family, too." 

And they don't wait until Sunday to get started.

"We celebrate it Friday, Saturday, and Sunday," said Siebert. "We start serving green draft beer on Friday, we call that St. Practice Day. Parade day is Saturday, but St. Patrick's Day to us is the true day. So Sunday will be crazy here. Last year, we had 3,200 customers."

Sieb's will feature live Irish music all weekend, including some Irish bagpipers. Their traditional Irish menu will include some additional specialties such as colcannon and bangers and mash. And there will be plenty of traditional Irish beer.

"The Guinness doesn't stop running that day. We are the second biggest seller of Guinness in Pittsburgh," said Siebert. "Last year, when St. Patrick's Day and parade day were the same day, we went through 27 barrels in one day." That translates into 162 cases of beer.

With all of the imbibing, every member of the family and their 26 employees will be on the lookout for customers who might drink too much, and then try to drive home.

"We have taxi service on line all day," said Seibert. "We've driven people home ourselves too. We don't let it get out of control. We're not a bar on the South Side, we know that, we are an Irish pub."
