Bites Nearby: Spadafora's Features Homemade Italian Food

Outstanding marinara sauce, fresh food and large portions make this restaurant a must-eat place this summer.

Overview: Spadafora’s Bar & Restaurant offers delicious, homemade Italian food and other specialties at its Allison Park restaurant on Route 8.

Decor: Spadafora’s is a small, modern restaurant with booths, tables and a full bar. It also has an outdoor seating area that is quite nice despite the close location to Route 8.

Drinks: “Spaddy’s,” as we call it, often offers drink specials such as the Spadatini. The restaurant also stocks local wine from nearby La Casa Narcisi’s Winery. There is a full range of non-alcoholic beverages including soft drinks and coffee.

Appetizers: It is easy to fill up on the appetizers alone. You must try the fried zucchini with the homemade marinara sauce. The sauce is the best, hands down, that I have tasted and the zucchini is thin and crispy.

The fried mozzarella is my son's favorite, and Spadafora's has a delicious crab cake. Most appetizers, including the zucchini and mozzarella, are $6.49, but specials such as barbecue-bacon-wrapped scallops were $10.99. The delicious shrimp bisque is $3.99 a cup. The restaurant also has a soup of the day. Soups are made in-house.

Entrees: The eggplant Parmesan is my mother’s favorite. I have a hard time choosing. The crab cake is delicious, and the salmon always is a good selection. My boys and husband will choose a hearty pasta dish including the lasagna, lobster ravioli or the Greek-style pasta. All dinners come with a side Spaddy salad, featuring Spaddy's Italian dressing. Prices range from $10.49 to $21.99.

Lunches include sandwiches, salads and hamburgers besides the other dishes offered in lunch portions. The fish sandwich is a favorite and has received local recognition. Prices range from $6.49 to $9.99.

Desserts: There is a nice selection of those that Chef Monica makes. Ask your server what is on the menu during your visit. Recent selections have included Chef Monica’s tiramisu and pecan balls with homemade butterscotch sauce.

Service: Spaddy’s is small, so I recommend that you make reservations if you have a large party. Weather permitting, enjoy the outdoor seating. All of the servers that we have had are friendly and happy to make suggestions. Mr. Spadafora, the owner, is always there, filling empty water glasses and making sure customers are happy.

Hours: Spadafora’s is open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 4 to 11 p.m. Saturday and 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday. The restaurant is available for private parties on Mondays and during the day on Saturdays and Sundays.

Address: 3932 William Flynn Highway, Allison Park. 412-486-1800 or visit www.spadaforas.net.
