Traffic Roundup: Here's What PennDOT's Working on This Weekend

PennDOT crews are busy making road improvements throughout the Pittsburgh area this weekend.

If you're traveling around Pittsburgh this weekend, here's a roundup of PennDOT's construction activities.  

Keep in mind that the HOV lanes on the Parkway North (I-279) are open to all outbound traffic on weekends after 7 p.m. on Friday and remain open until 5 a.m. on Mondays. In addition, the two-passenger vehicle rule does not apply during weekend hours.

Parkway East (I-376) Squirrel Hill work has been canceled for this weekend.

Grant Street Tunnel improvements Westbound (inbound) Parkway East/Central (I-376) in the City of Pittsburgh will be closed between Grant Street (Exit 71A) and the Fort Pitt Bridge/I-279 ramps from 9 p.m. on Friday through approximately noon Saturday. Crews will be performing repairs in the tunnel that carries Grant Street over I-376. The ramp from Grant Street to westbound I-376 will also be closed. Traffic will be detoured using Fort Pitt Boulevard.

I-579/Crosstown Boulevard/Veterans Bridge Ramp improvements. The ramp from southbound (inbound) Route 28 to the southbound I-579 Veterans Bridge in the City of Pittsburgh will be closed for expansion dam replacements this weekend from 8 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday. Signs will be posted to guide motorists.

The ramp connecting the Liberty Bridge to northbound I-579 (Crosstown Boulevard) will be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday.

In addition, traffic approaching the Veterans Bridge from the inbound (southbound) Parkway North (I-279) will be reduced to a single lane this weekend.

Route 65 Paving. Work to apply the final wearing (or riding) course of asphalt on Route 65 (Ohio River Boulevard) in both directions between Camp Horne Road and Terrace Drive in Emsworth Borough will occur from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. While a single-lane closure is already in place, additional delays, traffic shifts and restrictions may occur.

I-79 Line painting.  Work to repaint ramp lines on I-79 will occur from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at various interchanges between the Bridgeville rest areas (just south of Exit 54) and Crafton Route 60 (Exit 60) interchange. Line painting will begin at the rest areas moving north, then south.

Banksville Road Roadway improvements.  Work to improve Banksville Road (Route 19) between Beverly/McFarland Road and the Parkway West (I-376) in the City of Pittsburgh, Mt. Lebanon Township and Dormont Borough will occur from 8 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction.
