Police Chase Ends in Crash in Richland Township

One person was flown by medical helicopter to the hospital.

A police chase that began in Middlesex Township, Butler County, came to a violent end near Northtowne Square on Route 8 in Richland Township Monday night.

It began around 7:30 p.m. when Middlesex police were chasing a vehicle which first hit two other vehicles, then continued another quarter of a mile before colliding with a third vehicle trying to turn onto Route 8.

"The man in the vehicle that was hit was in serious condition and was flown to a local hospital from the scene," Northern Regional Police Chief Bob Amann told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The drivers of the first two vehicles hit were shaken up, but not hurt Amann told the P-G.

The man police were chasing was taken into custody. No word yet on why police were chasing him.

The southbound Route 8 lanes were closed from Grandview Crossing to Route 910 for several hours Monday. Chief Bob Amann said the roadway reopened around midnight.
