Viewfinder: Grammy-Award-Winning Musician Jeff Coffin Performs at PRHS

The Pine-Richland Jazz Ensemble takes the stage with Jeff Coffin.

Grammy-award-winning composer-musician Jeff Coffin took the stage Monday evening with his group the Mu'tet at .

Members of the Pine-Richland Jazz Ensemble played songs that Coffin had written, and several students performed solos as Coffin led the ensemble.

Coffin is a three-time Grammy-award-winning artist and plays saxophone for the Dave Matthews Band. Coffin and the rest of the Mu'tet group, which includes Felix Pastorius, son of famed bass player Jaco Pastorius, will be on tour with the Dave Matthews Band for its summer concert series.

Coffin was a music educator before he was a musician. He graduated from the University of North Texas with a B.A. in music education and taught privately. He's still interested in teaching young people about the joys of instrumental music and often performs for schools from the middle school to the college level.

This was a great concert. Seeing how good our PR kids are was such a thrill. And these are amazing pictures, really captured the fun the kids had and the enthusiasm and passion of the Mu'tet.
