Get Out Planner for the July 14 Weekend

Pine Township Community Day, Harry Potter Party and a Camp-Out at Richland Township Park make for a busy weekend in our area!

1. Harry Potter fans have eagerly awaited the last movie in the well-known and well-loved series. Kick off the premiere by going to the Harry Potter Release Party.

When/Where: 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at , 4015 Dickey Road, Gibsonia. 

Why go: Because this is the last movie in the series, this is the last time that you will get to go to a Harry Potter Release Party! Dress up as your favorite Harry Potter character and enjoy snacks that include butter beer and a Bertie Botts Every-Flavor bean-eating contest.

2. Family Campout and Movie in the Park

When/Where: 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the , 1049 Van Velsor Drive, Bakerstown. 

Why go: This is a beautiful time of year to enjoy the outdoors with your family. You can set up your camping gear by the barn in the park, watch a movie with your family, then share snacks and stories around a campfire. Please bring snacks and your own camping gear.

Price: Residents: $3 per person; non-residents: $5 per person. Please pre-register.

3. It’s Pine Township Community Day!

When/Where: 4:30 p.m. on Saturday at the , 100 Pine Park Drive, Wexford. 

Why go: Visit with friends and neighbors at the Pine Community Day where there will be all sorts of activities including games, rides, a petting zoo for the youngest visitors, watermelon and pie-eating contests, food vendors, and a performance by No Bad JuJu Band. The day will end with a spectacular fireworks display by Pyrotecnico.

4. It’s that time of year – the fresh corn on the cob is in! The Corn Roast Kick-Off happens this weekend at Soergel’s Orchard.

When/Where: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Soergel’s Orchards, 2573 Brandt School Road, Wexford.

Why go: There is nothing like fresh corn on the cob and where better to get it than Soergel Orchards? Eat fresh corn, enjoy music, pony rides and more at the farm location.

5. This is the weekend for the Mountain Bike Festival! Join the Pittsburgh Trails Advocacy Group (PTAG) for the 6th annual festival by riding in the Allegheny County Parks.

When/Where:  5 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Sunday. Closing party will be at Boyce Park on Sunday after final ride. 

Why go: Mountain biking is a fun sport and has really grown in Western Pennsylvania in the last few years. PTAG is a group that develops and supports trails in our area. Support both by attending this fun weekend.

6. The free concerts at Hartwood Acres are one of the best ways to enjoy a beautiful summer evening in our area. This week Mary Chapin Carpenter performs!

When/Where: 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Hartwood Acres performance area on Middle Road in Allison Park.

Why go: Mary Chapin Carpenter is a well-known, country folk singer with a lovely voice. You are sure to enjoy a wonderful night of entertainment in a beautiful location. Pack a picnic dinner, round up a few friends and have a great evening.
