A memorial concert will be presented on Sunday, July 17, 2011  to honor the legacy of Anthony Pasquarelli, long time instructor of trumpet.  This program will begin at 3:00 pm at the Memorial Park Church, 8800 Peebles Road, Allison Park, PA.  Admission is free.  Those attending may choose to make a donation to the Anthony Pasquarelli Foundation.

The concert will be presented by several generations of Anthony Pasquarelli’s trumpet students, professional performers from all over the United States and Europe.  Performed will be movements of two concertos commissioned in Mr. Pasquarelli’s honor.  Additional selections on the program will include solo trumpet features, large trumpet ensembles, a brass quintet and a large brass ensemble with organ and percussion.  Two selections will be premiered, having been written specifically for this program.

Anthony Pasquarelli was born June 13, 1915, in Pittsburgh and was affectionately called “The Boss” by his many trumpet students.  He was the most sought after trumpeter in Pittsburgh and during his long and successful career he played first trumpet in the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Civic Light Opera, Pittsburgh Grand Opera, Ice Capades and Ice Follies.  He was a staff musician with radio and television stations in Pittsburgh and with theatre orchestras including the Nixon, Penn and Stanley Theaters. He taught at Carnegie Mellon University for 47 years and, in 2004, was named the School of Music’s first Artist-Lecturer Emeritus in trumpet. In addition to teaching at CMU, The Boss taught in his downtown studio until the age of 93, and, as a teacher, he touched the lives of many students who still come together for annual luncheons where they share Boss stories which are filled with gratitude and humor, as Mr. Pasquarelli taught with a firm hand and great sense of humor.
