Volunteers Needed for St. Barnabas Hospice

Free training scheduled for prospective volunteers.

Volunteers are needed by St. Barnabas Hospice to make a difference in the lives of terminally ill patients and their families.

Volunteers visit hospice patients throughout St. Barnabas’ campuses to support families with services such as friendly visits, light housekeeping and errands. Opportunities for volunteering with clerical duties in the office are also available.

A free training program will be provided to those interested in volunteering with St. Barnabas Hospice from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29 at The Woodlands Lodge, 200 Lodge Lane, Valencia.

“St. Barnabas’ hospice nurses, aides and companions fulfill an important role in providing physical care and support to the patient,” said Kellie Kelly, director of St. Barnabas Hospice.

“However, the emotional needs for hospice patients and their families are so great that volunteers—who often have unique, relevant personal experience—can make a tremendous and positive impact upon people going through a difficult time.

"That’s why we’re looking for a group of caring volunteers to enhance our hospice program. Each volunteer can give as little or as much time as is suitable for their personal situation.”

St. Barnabas Hospice is operated by St. Barnabas Medical Center to support terminally ill patients and their families at the end stages. Services include pain management and care for the patient’s physical needs plus counseling and support for the patient’s family members.
