Richland Township Community Day Set for Saturday

Hundreds of activities, events, entertainment and lots of good food planned at Richland Community Park.

They are not clowning around. Well, maybe they are a little.

18th annual community day celebration is Saturday, and it's a carnival theme with something to enjoy for the whole family. The celebration will be held at .

The day begins at 2 p.m. with a flag-raising ceremony by American Legion Post 548.

Then, the stage is set, literally, for some amazing entertainment beginning with a performance by . Laura Lynn School of Dance will follow that and several bands will keep the stage rocking and rolling until fireworks start at dusk.

There will be carnival games as well, including a Duck Pond, Hula Toss, Lollipop Tree Game, the Rootin' Tootin' Shootin' Gallery, Spin the Wheel and Lucky Toss. There is also a Crawl Maze, face painting, various crafts, a petting zoo and assorted inflatables.

In between games, take a minute to visit with the ever-popular Giggles the Clown and Jester, a clown who rides a unicycle. There's a rumor that a certain Ronald McDonald may be stopping by as well. Hope he brings fries!

And speaking of fries -- are you hungry ? Very hungry? Very, very hungry? You'll have to be hungry with a lot of adjectives in front of it to join the wing-eating contest or the ice-cream eating contest. The good news? The wing-eating contest is at 4 p.m. and the ice cream eating contest is at 5:30 pm. Plenty of time to waddle from one to the other.

For those who have a more average appetite, there will be a huge variety of food -- just don't eat it all at once unless you're trying to win a prize.

There's so much more that it would take until Saturday to read it if we were to list it all. Instead, stop by Community Day at 2 p.m. and see for yourself.

Oh, and Pine-Richland Patch will have a booth there too -- come by and say "hello." We'd love to meet you.
